The Independent is reporting that newly-released secret documents indicate that the British government discussed invading Iraq more than two years before the 2003 invasion. Foreign office officials tried to advise the government thus:
…Foreign Office mandarins [warned] that an invasion would be illegal, that it would claim “considerable casualties” and could lead to the breakdown of Iraq…[bold added].
Even if Blair and company, mesmerized by the brilliance of George Bush’s global vision for freedom, were able to rationalize “considerable casualties” in their callous minds, “illegal” should have raised a few red flags, no?
